After BJP, State units of both Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party have thrown their weights behind the aggrieved
policemen having gone on a protest mode and joined the issue with the State Government for seeking to coerce them while dangling draconian acts.
SP activists on their part burnt the effigy of the State Government at lansdowne Chowck in Dehradun on Tuesday while BSP staged a rally in the city, expressing solidarity with the agitating policemen.
SP’s State leaders said the stir was fully justified and the State police top brass contemplating to quell it through draconian laws would prove counter-productive. The BSP State–based leaders echoed the same view, saying that they would be with the disgruntled policemen through thick and thin.
BSP mahanagar chief Tauseef Khan said his party would whole-heartedly support them, citing that their condition was akin to that of the backward class people. “The number of such disgruntled policemen is over twenty thousand. They are the backbone of the police department. If they are frustrated how would they protect the people of the stateIJ” he asked.
