After a thorough review of their performance, the police headquarters has decided to revise the distribution of tasks assigned to the City Patrol Unit (CPU). The personnel of this special unit would now concentrate more on ensuring smooth flow of traffic and curb street crimes.
In the meeting held on Friday, the PHQ has decided to distribute the responsibility of CPU units in 40:40:20 ratio. With this decision, 40 per cent of unit will be stationed at the bottleneck points to regulate the traffic, 40 per cent will be doing enforcement and the rest 20 per cent will focus on street crimes. At the end of each month suitable actions will be taken against the least performing CPU personnel.
Director General (law and order) Ashok Kumar said, “We have done few changes in the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of CPU. Regular monitoring will be done and if someone is found lacking in the duties, action will be taken against them accordingly. They have also been directed to focus on tough crimes such as rash driving, stunts, drink and driving and driving while speaking on the phone. It is easier to issue challan for not wearing helmet or seat belt.”
According to the information provided by the police headquarters, CPU units will now be focusing on accident control, traffic management and street time control as well.
For the enforcement CPU personnel will have to issue at least 80 percent challans by focusing on red light jumping, drunken driving, over speeding, over loading, usage of mobile while driving or riding and taking passengers in goods carriers.
For the controlling street crimes, CPU personnel will be focusing on sexual harassment, eve teasing and chain snatching. They would also check suspicious vehicles specially which are without number plate, vehicles carrying illegal ammunition.
