Social isolation, growing epidemic today, say experts

Considering the effects of loneliness on people, the Rural litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RlEK) has decided to hold an ‘Open Day’ every Saturday. According to the RlEK founder Avadhash Kaushal, physicians have long warned that social isolation is a growing epidemic that can have physical, mental and emotional consequences. It’s been associated with higher risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer and more, according to researchers. “It is a challenge for our society and for all of us to take action to address the loneliness endured by the elderly, by carers, by those who have lost loved ones — people who have no one to talk to or share their thoughts and experiences with.

In Dehradun too we have many people who are lonely or feel lonely and unhappy and they have no place or person with whom they can share their thoughts and feelings. RlEK has come forward and thrown open its door to all such people,” he said. RlEK will celebrate an Open Day every Saturday.

People who are lonely and wish to spend their day in company of like minded people can come to RlEK at Rajpur Road where they can bask in the sun, read newspaper, enjoy tea/coffee and have lunch as well.
