Prices of fruits are no less affected. Mangoes which were being sold on an average at Rs30 a kg till recently are now being sold at Rs50 to Rs60 a kg in the open retail market.
Similarly, prices of apples have gone over to Rs100 per kg from Rs50 per kg.
Declining volume of the essential commodities like vegetables and fruits due to poor road connectivity and also due to the damage caused to the crops are among the major factors leading to the skyrocketing prices.
The market watchers here are of the view that if the weather conditions do not look up the prices would spiral further.
