Despite the unseasonal rain and snow in the high altitude regions of Uttarakhand, a steady stream of pilgrims has been visiting Kedarnath since the shrine was reopened to the public on April 24.
Already, the number of pilgrims visiting Kedarnath in the last one week has crossed the total number of pilgrims who visited this shrine last year. According to information provided by the Char Dham Yatra control room, in the initial week of the pilgrimage, more than 11,000 pilgrims have visited Kedarnath. last year only 2,120 pilgrims had visited Kedarnath shrine.
Following the damage wreaked by the 2013 disaster, the number of visitors to Kedarnath had remained limited even last year. However, this year the advent of pilgrims has been higher in the initial stages of the pilgrimage to this shrine. Sources state that on an average, around 500 to 1,000 people are arriving in Kedarnath every day.
