With linking Aadhaar card number with the electoral rolls becoming compulsory, now the voters who have got their Aadhaar cards may send their Aadhaar card number through sms dialing 51969 to link the same with their respective area’s voter list.
According to the officials concerned of the district administration Pithoragarh, with the electoral roll verification process being on, the voters who have got their Aadhaar cards are expected to link the numbers with the rolls through the sms.
At the same time, the district administration Pithoragarh has directed the officials concerned, including the booth level officers (BlOs), to expedite the voter list verification process and collect voters' Aadhaar card numbers, email accounts and mobile numbers by conducting door to door survey so that the entire process of data entry/ feeding works meant to make the electoral roll error free is completed by June 30.
However, the problem is that Aadhaar card preparation process seems to be going quite slow in the region. Out of about 1, 84, 571 voters- 97,046 male and 87,525 female- only about 18, 919 voters' Aadhar card numbers have till recently been updated with the electoral roll in the Champawat district . Delay in preparation of the Aadhaar card is one of the major reasons behind the sloth in the process of updating the electoral rolls, the officials concerned said.
Majority of the people have not yet got their Aadhaar cards across the Kumaon division. Even in urban areas like Haldwani, things are moving at a snail’s pace. The cards come their ways after two/three months since they apply. The exercise began in Nainital in July last year. But it is still continuing with long queues being still seen outside Aadhar card agency offices.
