Skill development for girls and women must be given priority  in the State. Skill development programmes should also be extended to the remote mountainous areas, said Guv Krishan Kant Paul. He further said that edu institutions must have a cooperative relationship with industry so that youth could become employable and skilled. The Governor was addressing the inaugural session of a regional conference organised by the  Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD) here on Friday.

Paul said that more than 60 % of India’s population is less than 35 years of age and it is a great  task to see  how this young population can be used to undertake the task of nation building.  He said that according to NASSCOM report a large section of educated youth is not readily employable. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had set the objective of developing skills of 50 crore youths and that substantial steps were being taken by the Govt of India to get this goal.

The national skill development and entrepreneurship policy 2015 has been formulated. Industry and universities too have a great role to play in training youth in the latest techniques, he added.  Tourism, hospitality, healthcare and agriculture were sectors with immense potential for employment in U”khand. To meet the need for skilled human resource, industries should hold regular programmes where youths can hone their skills.
