The two-day fast called by the Shiksha Jan Sangharsh Samiti (SJSA) to protest against commercialisation of education ended on Wednesday. SJSA is an umbrella organisation of 28 social and political organisations. The activists of the organisation continued their fast at the Martyrs memorial at Collectorate on Wednesday. They said that the in wake of the recent historic judgment of Allahabad high court the government of Uttarakhand should also enforce a provision that all those who are drawing their salaries from government treasury should compulsorily send their wards to the government schools.
The convener of the SJSA Kamla Pant said that the government schools would get a positive lift if wards of top government officials and politicians are admitted in them. The activists later released an open letter in which various issues of public interest were highlighted.
