SIT tightens noose around academy officials

In an important disclosure, police sources said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) — tasked to crack the sensational Ruby Choudhary case involving lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (lBSNAA) — has restored some documents that had been deleted on purpose from the computer disks by some academy officials — a revelation that indicates that noose of the probe is fast tightening around the necks of some of the academy top brass.

The documents which had been removed and then restored were said to be pertaining to Ruby and her mysterious stay in the academy for around seven months. “They were doubtlessly removed to wipe out evidences that might be used to nail them to the infamous case,” said a senior police official. Notably, SIT had recovered four computer hard disks from the academy the day investigation began.

Sources said that the evidences SIT restored will be tested in Forensic Science laboratory, Dehradun and if need arises, they would be sent to the higher Forensic centres for confirmation. “We are slowly but steadily moving to nail others involved in the case. The process might take time as we must make sure that the grounds we are treading are sound enough for judicial scrutiny,” said a senior police official.

SIT will record Choudhary’s statement under Section 164 of CrPC before a magistrate on April 15. Police sources said with the SIT having almost completed its probe concerning the fake IAS woman, they are now focusing themselves on probing the roles of the academy officials. The team members are now engaged in reviewing evidences collected during Choudhary’s interrogation on police remand and those collected from the academy premises and during interrogation of academy officials.

lBSNAA  deputy director  Saurabh Jain had reportedly filed a defamation  case worth Rs one crore against Dev Singh who is said to have disclosed before the SIT that he had allowed Choudhary to stay  in his allocated quarters in the academy at the behest of Jain. The investigation further revealed that the car Choudhary used to enter the academy premises had been earlier used by one of the Cabinet ministers of Uttar Pradesh.

In the course of the investigation, SIT members had collected important evidences from the academy aside from Meerut and Nainital which they had visited to probe things, using the four- day police remand of Choudhary.  Now, speculations are rife over SIT’s next course of action with the probe drawing towards its conclusion. “The sooner things are cleared and those responsible are nailed the better. For, we are afraid the academy officials who are feeling noose tightening around their necks would go to any desperate length to wipe out evidences to stop the investigators from swooping on them,” said an observer.
