Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravinder Jugran alleged on Thursday that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which was formed by the State Government to deal with land fraud cases with much fanfare has failed to bring things to logical conclusions. The SIT has so far acted against small fries with no action being taken against the land sharks, he said.
He further said that the SIT formed by the State Government led by Garhwal Range IG/DIG Sanjay Kumar Gunjiyal around three years ago was an eye wash. Nothing has happened to stop selling lands with forged documents and cutting trees in reserved forest area, among others.
He further said things have come to such a pass that IPS officers are now free to capture lands illegally, cut trees in reserved forest areas and complete forged land registration, thanks the SIT.
Citing an instance, the BJP leader said SIT has not acted so far in the case of State DGP BS Sidhu having allegedly had trees felled in the forest land at Virgirwali in Rajpur. “SIT has neither conducted thorough inquiry nor even a case has been registered,” he said, adding that the Chief Minister must answer why SIT has failed to achieve its objective.
