SIT fails to crack case, suggests CBI probe

The SIT, which was formed by the State police to crack the Ruby Choudhary case, suggested CBI inquiry into the mystery, apparently throwing up hands in despair. Notably, the team has failed to step on any concrete evidence to confirm the complicity of lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (lBSNAA) officials despite over a month having passed since it came up into focus.

State Director General of Police (DGP) BS Sidhu said that Garhwal Range DIG who was monitoring the case has sent a proposal to the police headquarters, seeking CBI inquiry into the case. The proposal was forwarded to the State Government too. If CBI accepts the proposal the probe would start afresh. “We would hand them over all the evidences SIT has collected so far to help the premier investigative agency of the country to unravel the mystery,” he added.

Sources said that in course of the investigation, the team had collected evidences after grilling Ruby in the academy after she was arrested on April 3. The team collected further evidences after seeking four days of her police remand from the court. SIT collected evidences from the academy campus after grilling the academy officers and employees. Security guards, ITBP personnel, academy librarian, personal assistant (PA) to the academy’s director, PA to the academy’s deputy director and two IAS probationers who featured along with Choudhary during the photo session with the President Pranab Mukherjee in December last were also grilled by the team.

Sources said that both the IAS probationers had recorded their statements. Deputy director Saurabh Jain was grilled twice in the academy. The investigation revealed that the academy officials had deleted computer data related to Ruby.  “However, the end result of such painstaking probe seems a zero. The top cop is pleading to be relieved. This abject surrender is bound to mystify people,” an observer said.

It is also learnt from sources that as per some recovered evidences, a plan was there to push Ruby in the place of an IAS officer from Moradabad who had not attended training at Academy for some reasons. The books, found in Ruby’s possession, though not officially issued from the academy’s library, has lent a queer twist to the mystery. Moreover, the suspended security guard of the academy, Dev Singh had already recorded his statement before the judicial magistrate under 164 of CrPC, saying that IAS Jain had directed him to provide shelter to Ruby in his allocated house in the campus.

“Despite things being so glaringly clear, the sign being so tell-tale, they are still stumbling in the gloom to find a way out of the riddle,” the observer said. The Academy security officer Satyaveer Singh had registered a case under Sections 420/467/468/471 of the IPC against Choudhary in the Mussoorie police station on April 2 evening. Ruby was arrested on April 3 on the charge of clandestinely staying in the Academy premises for around seven months while posing as an IAS probationer.
