In connection with alleged rape of a woman by Pradeep Sangwan, son of ex-MP Kishan Singh Sangwan and native of Haryana (Sonipath) on April 18, Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested the female victim from her Dehradun home after police collected enough evidence to indict her.
She had bought land for `17 lakh at Banjarawala in Dehradun using the money purportedly paid to her by the accused for reaching a ‘compromise’. Police have also recovered Rs six lakh unaccounted cash from her home, said State Director General of Police BS Sidhu while interacting with media persons on Tuesday.
A case under section 384, 201, 220b, 420 and other appropriate sections of IPC was lodged against the woman in Kotwali Police Station on Tuesday, said Kotwali Police Station in-charge SS Bisht. Sidhu said that recently, the court had rejected her plea for changing her previous statement recorded under section 164 of CrPC.
Following this, the team began investigating several angles to ascertain why she wanted to change her statement. Based on phone call details, police found the mobile number of a person to whom the woman had made several calls in the past few days. The team recorded the call details of a third person (name not disclosed by the police) to whom she had told on the phone, “I have submitted an affidavit in the court seeking to change my previous statement and record a fresh statement in this case. I have made the affidavit in such a way that I am safe from all sides. He (accused) has told me to take `five lakh during parliamentary election and remaining amount `15 lakh will be provided after election.”
DGP Sidhu said that based on this the police collected documents related to land registrations since April 18 in the district. The team found a registry document in which the woman had bought a land for Rs 17 lakh in Banjarawala using her real name though, in her written complaint in the Rajpur Police Station, she had mentioned her pet name.
The DGP claimed that investigation of this case is progressing in the right direction. In the investigation, it has been revealed that the accused had filmed the victim as she had earlier alleged. He denied that police are working under political pressure which resulted in delay in arrest of the accused Sangwan. According to him, Haryana police have already been informed about this case. After securing non-bailable warrant against the accused, along with Haryana police, the Uttarakhand police team had raided Sangwan’s house and seized computers, two mobile phones and other items.
Based on victim’s complaint, a case under Sections 376 (2), 323, 506 and 66 IT Act was registered in the Rajpur Police Station on April 18. The victim who was an employee at Joyland water park, near Sahastradhara owned by Pradeep Sangwan, had earlier alleged that she was sexually exploited by him at hotels in Mussoorie and Rajpur.
