Sidhu wants Police Act 1922 notified in State

In order to enforce strict discipline in the police force, State Director General of Police BS Sidhu would send a proposal to the State administration, asking for police (incitement of disaffection) Act 1922 to be notified. This act is operational in those States where it is notified.

The Police (Incitement to Disaffection) Act, 1922 says that the expression “member of a police-force” means any person appointed or enrolled for the performance of police duties under any enactment specified in the Schedule. Penalty for causing disaffection, —whoever (including media), intentionally causes or attempts to cause, or does any act which he knows is likely to cause disaffection towards the Government establishment by law amongst the members of a police-force, or induces or attempts to induce or does any act which he knows is likely to induce any member of a police-force to withhold his services or to commit a breach of discipline, shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to two hundred rupees, or with both.

Senior cops of the state say that the act once notified here would act as a deterrent to the policemen who are inclined to ventilate grievances in public to draw attention of the state government to their grievances.
