The important security institutions based in Dehradun remained shuttered on Wednesday in response to the strike convened by the Centralised unions with a string of demands. The strike was almost total in several institutions like the ordnance factory, Opto electronics, IRDE, MES, NHO and OCRI. The ordinance factory at Raipur looked deserted with most of the workers joining the strike.
The strikers put up barricades at the main gates of the security institutions and stopped the workers who had reached them to work, defying the strike. This resulted in clashes in some places between the pro and anti-strike factions of the workers. However, adequate presence of police and PAC stopped things from spiraling out of control. Anil Uniyal and Jagdish Chimwal, members of national executive of the union that spearheaded the strike, said that they would resort to indefinite strike in the coming days unless the Centre mends its ways and takes the correctives.
