Showcause notice to GDMC's Principal

Published on:

Taking a stern note of the resentment shown by the Principal of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) on the State Government’s decision to shift the office of HNB medical education university in the campus of GDMC, the Secretary medical education, D Senthil Pandiyan has issued a show- cause notice to the Principal. The Secretary Medical education Pandian himself confirmed it while talking to The Pioneer in the secretariat on late Friday evening. He clarified that the order had  been issued on the basis of the cabinet decision taken  in 2014. It was clearly mentioned in the order that whenever  a medical college comes up  the university camp office will come  up in  the GDMC campus.

“As far as the GDMC principal’s statement is concerned he should have raised the issue in proper forum like approaching the government instead of  raising it through media,” he said.

Pandiyan has asked the Principal to submit a reply within three days upon receiving the  show-cause notice.

He  further said that the decision to shift the office of the university had been taken as per the provisions of the HNB Medical Education University Act -2014. Acting on the show cause notice sent by  the Secretary, the additional secretary Pankaj Kumar Pandey has directed the Director Education, Dr Ashutosh Sayana to have the reply received from the Principal within stipulated time and forward the same to the government with his views on the issue.

The Principal Dr Pradip Bharati Gupta had opposed the decision of the government to shift the office of the university in the college campus on the grounds that it would act detrimental to the medical college. He had raised the apprehension that the Medical Council of India (MCI) would object to the presence of office inside the college and could even cancel the recognition of the college.

The government is planning to shift the office of university presently running in a small building located near the old bus stand to the new and imposing building of the GDMC located in Patel Nagar area. The Principal was of the view that that since the college building had been constructed as per the norms of MCI, providing ten rooms to the university would affect the functioning of the medical college.

When contacted, the Principal refused to comment on the new development.
