Shortage of the NCERT book remains a problem

While the Government has ordered use of NCERT books in all schools except ICSE board schools in Uttarakhand, availability of the NCERT text books in the markets remains an issue.

Due to the book shortage, parents of students queuing outside bookstores to secure a complete set of text books have become a common sight.

Owner of a book shop near Dispensary Road, Manish Sehgal said, “The parents are demanding complete sets of NCERT books but the availability is so limited that the sellers are unable to provide books for all subjects taught in all the classes. There is a shortage of supply which has left us with no other option but to sell the books as we receive them.”

Another owner of a book shop, Amit said, “We are trying to get as many NCERT books as we can but there is shortage of books especially for classes I to X. We are hoping that this problem will get resolved in the near future.’’

Owner of a bookstore near Moti Bazaar, SC Arora said, “As shopkeepers and parents, we know the problems we are facing to get a complete set of NCERT books. limited availability of books has left the parents with no choice but to visit many book shops to buy individual subject books from different shops to get a complete set of the books.

Most are returning empty handed from the shops. Not just a few book shops but most book shops in Dehradun are facing a shortage of NCERT text books,” he added.
