The State Mental Health Institute at Selaqui is in a very bad shape and State Government should act to improve the condition of the hospital, said Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vijay, while handing over an ambulance to Doon hospital here on Tuesday.  He said that the mental health institute was suffering from acute shortage of staff and facilities.

Vijay claimed that the condition of the inmates of the institute was pathetic and relatives of many of them rarely visited them. The Rajya Sabha MP has donated the ambulance to the hospital from his MP fund. Expressing his delight after providing the ambulance, Vijay said that he would provide more such ambulances if need arises.

He lamented that the health services of the state are in a very bad shape and the conditions are pathetic in the mountainous areas. The Rajya Sabha MP pledged to donate ambulances in the remote and mountainous areas of the state form his MP fund. Vijay said that the Doon hospital should not be shifted from its present location and more facilities should be introduced here. He lamented the practice of giving more attention to the VIP patients in the hospital and suggested that every patient should be properly attended.  Coming down heavily on the state government for failing to provide basic facilities for the Yatris in the on going Nanda Raj Jat Yatra, he said that the Yatris are not even getting enough drinking water.
