Opposing the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority’s Chakrata Road redevelopment plan, members of Chakrata Road Shopkeepers and Residents Welfare Society alleged that the higher officials have designed the plan mainly for their personal benefit by selling the property to the builders.
Blaming the MDDA officials for not following the Government order, Rajneesh Goyal, vice president of the society said that neither has remaining nazul land of the Chakrata Road been made free hold yet nor has any map been approved for the re-development. As per the plan of MDDA, 8-10 storey building would be constructed on remaining land along Chakrata Road and the affected traders would be provided basement area in the building while the remaining nine floors would be provided to builders. He alleged involvement of Congress leaders in this ‘conspiracy’. He further alleged that the MDDA officials had also submitted an ‘unfair’ PIl in the court which depicted the condition of the buildings at Chakrata Road as dilapidated. He said that a delegation had also met the Chief Minister earlier. In reply the CM had said he can’t order against the direction of the High Court. He further said that instead of focusing on the redevelopment of disaster-hit area including Kedarnath, the Government wants to exploit traders through this plan.
