Shiksha Acharyas still waiting for elusive GO

Published on:

It appears that the wait of agitating Shiksha Acharyas (SA) for the elusive Government order (GO) which would adjust them as the Shiksha Mitras (SM) in the Government schools of the State has become endless. The State Cabinet had taken a decision to induct 910 SA as SM on February 28, this year but authorities are yet to release the  Government order (GO) as per the wish of the cabinet.

The members of The Shiksha Acharya/ Anudeshak Federation are sitting on an indefinite Dharna at Old Raipur bus stand near Parade ground form June 3, 2012. On Tuesday the dhrana of the federation entered 802 day. The President of Federation DS Bisht told The Pioneer that it is really surprising that the state government is yet to release the GO even though the cabinet cleared the proposal to adjust them as SM in the month of February only. He said that delegation of federation had met the Chief Minister Harish Rawat, education minister Mantri Prasad Naithani and senior officers of the education department many times and brought the matter to their notice. He claimed that they were assured that the GO would be soon released but nothing has happened till date.

Bisht said that the agitating Shiksha Acharyas (SA) are on verge of exhaustion due to the struggle of more than two years. He said that the federation would not get buoyed down by the delaying tactics of the state government. He warned that the state government would be solely responsible if the hitherto peaceful agitation takes a violent turn as the members of the federation are frustrated by the long battle.

These SA were employed to bring out of the school children in fold of elementary education under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). For children like those living in streets some Alternative and Innovative Education (AIE) centers were opened under SSA and Anudeshaks were posted in them. The government employed 2883 SA and Anudeshaks till 2008 under SSA and were given a paltry wage of Rs 2500 only. The state government later decided to shut the AIE centers in a phased manner from the year 2008 and by March 31, 2012 all such centers were closed.  The state government later adjusted some S A as SM in primary schools of the state. Now the remaining 910 candidates are demanding to be adjusted as SMs who get a monthly stipend of Rs 13000 per month.
