Inmates of the State-run shelter homes should be provided with medical check-ups once a month in the Government hospitals, said Dehradun DM Ravinath Raman after he inspected Shishu Niketan, Balika Niketan and Nari Niketan located at Kedarpuram on Friday.
Raman directed Probationary Officer Meena Bisht and Medical Officer KD Sharma in charge of the three State-run homes to co-ordinate things to ensure that a team of doctors comprising specialists of ENT, skin, medicine and pathology examines the inmates of the three homes once a month. Bisht was directed to make arrangements of marriage of the girls who have crossed 18 years of age in coordination with chief medical officer under a scheme recently launched by the State government.
Raman inspected inmates’ rooms, kitchen and toilet and directed the officials to take measures to maintain hygiene. The child adoption system should be implemented through a committee to be formed, he stressed while adding that the children arriving in the homes should be properly examined by the doctors. This would help in identifying diseases they are suffering from,
DM said.
Voter identity cards should be made for the inmates who are eligible as well as mentally fit to vote, he said. There would be polling booths inside the campus of shelter homes to enable them to cast votes during the upcoming Assembly election.
He further said that the handicraft items made by the physically handicapped inmates would be sold in the markets and the money earned through sales would be deposited in their bank accounts.
