Sharadotsav, which is an important event in Uttarakhand’s cultural calender is slated to begin in the lake city Nainital from Tuesday. The event also marks the beginning of the winter season.

Folk music, dance, cultural shows, Kavi Sammelan, photo exhibitions, and display of the products made by local craftsmen, will be centre of attraction for this year’s Sharadotsav.

Folk artists, school children and other artists invited from different parts of the region are likely to perform in this annual cultural event which will continue till November 14.

A laser light show will be brought into play to make the event more colourful , said the organisers of the event. Besides, the lake carnival show in which 50 boats are going to take part, will only add to the beauty of this show.

Vocalist Javed Ali, Sufi singer Hansraj Hans, Ghazal singer Chandar Das, and comedian VIP Champion are some of the artists who are going to perform in this event, further said the organisers.

‘Sharadotsav’ not only promotes the hill State’s rich cultural heritage but also gives an opportunity to the new budding folk artists to showcase their talents.

Overall, it comes as a huge opportunity to give momentum to the tourism sector which remains rather a low key affair during the winter season here. Since the lake city, Nainital is one of the major tourist destinations and here such events bring opportunity for the tour operators to attract a number of tourists during this period.

Apart from the tourism sector and the folk artists, the local traders, entrepreneurs engaged in traditional trading activities and handicrafts may also have an opportunity to showcase their products in course of the festival.

Therefore, apart from organising a variety of cultural programmes, as many as 100 stalls will also be set up to give maximum exposure to the products made by small scale industries, craftsmen and Khadi to name a few, the officials concerned of the Nainital district informed.

Besides, different Government departments will also use these stalls to exhibit their popular programmes. However, use of polythene bags will remain strictly banned in the Sharadotsav, the officials maintained.

Meanwhile, the district administration, Nainital, has asked the officials concerned and organisers of this winter festival to take necessary measures on time so that the annual Sharadotsav could be held smoothly and in a peaceful manner.
