In all, 39 nomination papers were sold at SGRR (PG) College for the students’ union election. The filing of nomination would be held on August 18 while the final list of candidates would be declared on August 19. The election campaign would end on August 21 and polling would be held on August 23, said the college chief election officer Pradeep Singh on Thursday. He further said that in view of nomination on various posts of the students’ union election slated on Friday, barricades have been installed at some places in the campus to maintain law and order. No candidate had sought permission to take out rally as part of the election campaign, he added.
He said that duty of the college staffs have been assigned to ensure a trouble-free nomination filing process for the election. “The college administration has sought police deployment in the college campus in view of the nomination filing process,” he said. A few days left for the election, the college is abuzz with activities now with the candidates and their supporters using several means to win the hearts of the students like one- to- one interaction, arranging meetings, pasting posters and installing banners outside the college campus. Around 1100 students are expected to vote to elect the candidates for the union.
