SFI stages protest outside social welfare dept office

Student Federation of India (SFI) members staged a demonstration outside the office of social welfare department on Tuesday and protested against the Union Government for its ‘anti-student’ polices.

Addressing the gathering, the district president of the SFI, Vipin Joshi blamed the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani for adopting a dictatorial attitude and said that she has no concern for welfare of students belonging to deprived sections of the society.

The activists were particularly annoyed on delay in budget for the scholarships of the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) students.

The entire budget for the post class X scholarships for these students is borne by the Union Government and the Uttarakhand Government is claiming that an amount of `135 crore for these scholarships is pending on the Union Government.

The activists of the SFI dispatched a letter to President highlighting the problems faced by the students.
