SFI members protest at Doon magistrate's office

In retaliation of the students affiliated to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protesting at DAV (PG) College campus and vandalizing the SFI’s office located at Karanpur on Thursday evening, alleging that the CPI-M student affiliate was an anti-national organisation, scores of SFI members protested at Dehradun district magistrate’s residence (camp office) on Friday evening, demanding arrest of the ABVP members.

The trigger of the unrest was some SFI leaders describing the execution of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru as 'judicial killing' and sloganeering against it in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus.

Devendra Singh Rawal, SFI’s State secretary, alleged that around 25 ABVP activists had vandalized the SFI office on Thursday evening, breaking chairs and tables and  destroying photos and office documents.

Rawal further said that he had registered a complaint in Dalanwala police station on Thursday evening. Acting on it, a case under section 427 of IPC was registered against three ABVP members- Paras Goyal,  Shubham Samilti and Kapil Sharma- in the police station on Friday.

SFI leaders said that they were not happy with the section they had been booked under. Some more sections should be added in the FIR to ensure they are punished  stringently, the SFI activists said.

Rawal said that the attack had come despite the central  SFI leadership having distanced itself from the sloganeering against the hanging of Afzal Guru in JNU campus.

Rawal warned that the union will intensify its protest across the State if their demand is not met.
