Dozens of students belonging to the Student’s Federation of India (SFI) held a protest demonstration at the office of Chief Education Officer (CEO), Dehradun against proposed shifting of Sri Guru Ram Rai (SGRR) Inter College Sahaspur. The irate students complained that management without any prior information asked them to shift to SGRR Public School at Shankarpur. The students said the around 800 students would be affected by the unilateral decision of the management. The students led by the leaders of SFI threatened to intensify their agitation if the decision to shift the school was not taken back. The students handed over a memorandum to CEO, SP Khali. Taking prompt action the CEO asked the District Education Officer (DEO) secondary and Block Education Officer (BEO) Sahaspur to inquire in the matter.
These officers would submit their report in a week.It is worth mentioning here that the SGRR inter college is a Hindi medium school run by SGRR mission and is serving predominantly economically backward students since 1954.Ironically these students are now being asked to shift to other school. The students alleged that school was being vacated to accommodate the English medium students of SGGR public school which charge hefty fees from the students.Justifying the action of SGGR Education Mission, one of authorised signatory GS Rana said both the schools belonged to the trust and shifting was being done as renovation work was in progress. He claimed the decision was a temporary one and a final solution to this would soon be worked out by the SGRR Management.
