Sexual harassment charges against teacher

Published on:

Shocked over the sexual harassment allegation levelled against a faculty member by three students, the Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) has set up an inquiry committee. The matter came to light on Thursday when parents of one of the three girls visited the university and levelled charges against a teacher. Taking cognizance of the charges, the university administration constituted a three-member committee to investigate the matter. Informing, the vice-chancellor (VC) UTU, U S Rawat said that the committee has been directed to submit its report in three days. “Based on the report, appropriate action would be taken,” he said, and added that the committee would submit its report to the VC and registrar of the university.

In their complaint to the university administration, the three girl students have claimed that a faculty member of the university used to talk in double meaning language and make lewd comments on them. They, further, alleged that during interactions, the teacher had sought sexual favour indirectly.

Exasperated by the behaviour of the teacher, the girls are said to have informed their parents.

However, the teacher against whom the charges have been levelled denied the allegation and said that the girls had made false charges by way of   pressure tactics, given their low attendance.
