Dehradun Police has busted an inter-State prostitution racket and arrested eight people, including six women, from an Army officer’s (Colonel) residence at Pragati Vihar under Cement Town Police Station area on Tuesday, said SSP Dehradun, Dr Sadanand Date. Women pressed into the flesh racket had been brought from Kolkata, Ambala, Chandigarh and Mumbai, police said. Two pimps named Rama Krishna, native of Kolkata and Gaurav Sharma, native of Ambala (Haryana), were arrested from the spot. However, two other pimps managed to escape. Two women each were from Kolkata and Delhi while one each from Ambala and Mumbai, police informed.  A case has been registered under Immoral Trafficking Act in the police station, Clement Town, he added.

The absconders have been identified and teams are working to arrest them, said CO City Manoj Kumar Katyal.

He further said that action will be taken against the house owner too after they would question him about the racket operating from his house.

Police further informed that the prostitution racket was being operated through mobile phone and internet services and the room where the racket was operating from was taken on rent from the Army officer. Two cars used for these activities were seized too from the possession of those arrested.

Dehradun police acted after they had received a tip- off about prostitution activities going on at an Army officer’s house at Clement Town area. Police said the tip-offs kept coming to them over the past one month, but they were taking time to have things verified.  A team led by CO City Katyal was formed and they raided the house on Tuesday.

As police knocked on the door of the room no response came. Then they forced open the door to find the accused in compromising positions. The eight persons found thus were arrested from the spot while two fled. During interrogation, the accused confessed to their offences, police claimed.
