Sewage line repair work in the Araghar Chowk causes traffic snarl

Published on:

The sewage line repair work in the Araghar Chowk which has been continuing  for days is leading to a severe traffic  snarl in the area. The officials, however, assure that the work would be completed in a couple of days. The residents say that they are facing several problems, including the traffic jams, in the area thanks to the ongoing work.

Asked about the traffic congestion problem, the traffic police in charge of the area Prem Chandra said that the condition has been the same for over twenty days now. “The ordeal the people are facing on the road is real. It is turning increasingly  difficult for us to control traffic, especially in the evening hours when the people come back home from their offices. Sometimes  the traffic jams last for hours.  Even with two officers deployed here, it is really  proving difficult for us to keep the   traffic movement smooth,” he said.

A resident of the area Anand Prakash said that the potholes filled with rainwater are emanating stink. “When the construction work goes on muck and dust are getting  into our houses,” he said.

A shopkeeper trading  in the area Rishi Nanda claimed that this is the third time that the construction in the area is taking place. “This is the third time in just six months that the construction is taking place in this area.  We wonder why things are happening repeatedly. The area being accident prone, we fear mishaps because of the precarious condition of the roads,” he added.

Manoj Dangwal, a hotel owner of the area, said, “The long-continuing  construction work is turning boarders away.  The condition of the road which is already horrible might turn worse if it rains,” he added.

However, Anirudh Bhandari, an executive engineer PWD, said that the work going on in the area would be completed in a couple of days.
