Serpentine queues outside ATMs, banks closed for holidays

The serpentine queues before the ATMs spread across the city continuing unabated, the people are discussing whether their time of trial would end by December 30 as per the Prime Minister’s assurance. Most of the money dispensing machines were  devoid of cash on Monday with the banks being closed for the past three days.

Subham, resident of Mohit Nagar, said that he had visited several ATMs in the city to withdraw money on Monday. “But all of them were cashless. I for one supported the courageous move of the Prime Minister. However, the ordeal going on for more than a month, my patience is wearing thin. I have started doubting that things would be put on tracks by December 30 in tune with the assurance of the Prime Minister. We would, however, wait till the time, hoping against hope,” he said.  Rashmi Bisht, working in a private organisation, said that she was yet to withdraw even a part of her salary though it was credited in her account several days ago. “The ATMs remaining dry, it is proving increasingly difficult for us to make ends meet. Patience running out with the trial continuing, I am not much optimistic whether things would be all right for us by the end of this month as promised by the Prime Minister,” she said.

Pritam Semwal, a college student, said that he had withdrawn money from an ATM after standing in a long queue on Friday night. “I rushed to the ATM, knowing that the banks would be closed for three days. Given the tough situation we are in, it is wrong on the part of the Centre to have banks closed for three consecutive days.
