The spate of murders over the past few days has scared the people of Uttarakhand. Three murders, including that of a local BJP leader, have been reported from Haridwar and one in Udham Singh Nagar-all when the State was under the President’s Rule. The ghastly, broad day light murder of a doctor at OPD of a State-run hospital in Udham Singh Nagar sent shiver down the spine of all. The murderers are moving scot free with police stumbling in the darkness as to their identities. In all these four incidents of murder in Hardiwar and Udham Singh Nagar, unidentified criminals fired shots on their targets, shot them dead and escaped.
Notably, over 36 hours have passed since the doctor SK Singh was shot dead while he was on duty at a community health centre at Kashipur under Udham Singh Nagar district by two-wheeler- borne unidentified person, the police are struggling to identify the criminals. The criminal had shot a single bullet on his chest and escaped with an accomplice who was waiting on the bike outside the health centre. The same is with the murders that happened in Haridwar district. Police are still clueless. These murders, lumped with the broad day light loot done at gun point in Rudrapur of Udham Singh Nagar district on April 12, have left the people deeply scared.
Additional SP Kamlesh Upadhyay said that several teams, including SOG, have been pressed into service to crack the doctor’s murder case at the earliest. Some team members have been working on several angles, including property dispute and personal revenge, to crack the case. Based on leads, two teams have been deployed in Bijnor and Saharanpur.
In Haridwar district, police are still groping for clues regarding the murder of a local BJP leader. On April 19 noon, two unidentified persons made a fatal assault on a BJP leader Raj Singh at his residence in Tanshipur village, Manglaur in Roorkee. The 35-year old BJP leader was president of BJP’s Anusuchit Jati Morcha.
In laksar, two miners - Arunesh and Anil-all residents of laksar, were shot dead by unidentified persons on Wednesday night. Haridwar SP Rural Pramendra Bisht said that teams have been formed to crack two murder incidents. Police got some clues regarding the murder of the two miners. They hoped that the cases would soon be cracked. Importantly, Ardh Kumbh IG GS Martolia said on Thursday that police personnel who were deputed in Ardh Kumbh Mela have been relieved now and sent to their previous postings.
