Following the weather forecast issued by the meteorological centre stating the likelihood of very heavy snowfall/rain in some mountainous regions of the State on February 7, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) has issued an advisory to all the district magistrates. The advisory mentions the basic precautions that the general public should observe on the said day for safety. According to the SEOC, the people should remain informed about the snowfall/avalanche incidents in their nearby areas during the day and night. In case of snowfall or avalanche, people should restrict their movements and travel only under very necessary circumstances. During snowfall, the people should not let too much snow accumulate on the roofs of their homes or temporary shelters but clear the snow frequently. While travelling in snowy areas, one should remain alert to the risk of slipping. Further, the advisory states that in case of people residing areas that register heavy snowfall, they should shift to lower altitude for a couple of days. Extreme caution should be observed in areas where avalanches have taken place in the past. The district magistrates have been asked to disseminate this advisory in the mountainous regions forecast to experience heavy snowfall later this week.
