Senior administrative officers, police officers and BJP leaders inspected Parade Ground in the city on Saturday in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to unveil the foundation stone of the all-weather roads for Char Dham on December 27 from there.

Ten-member SPG team remains stationed in Dehradun for the past two days, taking stocks of the security preparedness for the PM’s programme.

Additional DGP (law and order) Ram Singh Meena, IG (intelligence and security) AP Ansuman, Additional (IG), SPG S Roy, Garhwal Range DIG Pushpak Jyoti, DM Ravinath Raman and SSP Sweety Aggarwal aside from PWD officers and administrative and police officers inspected the ground on Saturday and monitored things.

Earlier on Friday, a team from SPG and senior police officers inspected Jollygrant Airport and GTC helipad.

It is learnt from the police that Prime Minister Modi would land at Jolly Grant Airport by a special IAF aircraft on Tuesday.  He would be taken to GTC helipad in the city by an IAF helicopter and from the helipad he would go straight to Parade Ground by road.

Modi, set to address a public rally at Parade Ground after the unveiling is over, has put the state BJP leaders on their toes. The state party president Ajay Bhatt, general secretary Naresh Bansal and other leaders inspected Parade Ground where the police officers briefed them about security preparedness.

Those who trade from Parade Ground have been directed to vacate the place at the earliest while the local police officers and intelligence staff have been asked to be vigilant.

The administrative and security agency officers have inspected the places from where VVIPs, VIPs and the common people would enter Parade Ground during the PM’s programme.  Public Works Department would install barricades to control entry in the venue.

ADGP (law and order) Meena directed traffic SP to take measures to ensure smooth flow of traffic and parking arrangements for all who attend the programme.

He also directed the district police to conduct verification of residents and vehicle checking drives around Parade Ground area and other places nearby.

He said that elaborate security arrangements are being made around Jolly Grant Airport, GTC Helipad and Parade Ground. Adequate police forces have been deputed for security purpose at the venues and strategic locations across the district ahead of the visit, he said.  A bomb disposal squad, jammer and dog squad would be put into operation to make the security fool-proof, he added.
