Senior journalist Dr Umashankar Thapliyal and his journalist son Bhavani Shankar Thapliyal died from cardiac failure shortly after each other at Srinagar on Tuesday. They were cremated in the evening at the Alaknanda Ghat. Bhavani Shankar Thapliyal became ill on Tuesday morning and was taken to a hospital where he suffered a fatal heart attac. Shortly after his son’s death, Umashankar Thapliyal too suffered a similar heart attack. As news of the tragedy spread, locals, public representatives and mediapersons from nearby areas reached Srinagar to participate in the funeral procession. Chief Minister Harish Rawat has termed the deaths irreparable loss.
