Senior cops befuddled over Bhura's transit

Published on:

Senior police officers proved they could not care less on the matter of arranging transit of the notorious criminal from Dehradun to Baghpat for a murder case hearing in court. Such nonchalant approach is surprising, given the fact that Bhura is an old bird in the realm of crimes with scores of cases tagged to him in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Delhi. Police took Bhura by train to Baghpat and from there, to the court premises on an auto-rickshaw. The question is-how could police be so casual while being aware of the gagster’s antecedents. Bhura had escaped from the clutches of Delhi Police in 2010 when he was being taken to a local court from Tihar Jail. In the wake of the shootout outside Roorkee jail involving two gangs led by  notorious Cheenu Pandit and Sunil Rathi    that resulted in three deaths,  Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh) native Bhura was arrested by the Uttarakhand police on August 9 this year. He was sent to Roorkee sub-jail.

From there he was shifted to Haridwar jail on August 16 and on September 28, he was shifted again in Suddhowala jail. Police officers seemed to have taken things for granted as regards his transit from the jail to the court and vice versa. This might be because of the fact that he had been previously produced many a time in the court without any glitch. According to information, he was produced 11 times in various courts of Western Uttar Pradesh from Suddhowala jail and three times from Haridwar Jail. The mode of transit was the same and so the police had least expected that things would be so grimly different this time. The senior police officers sounded utterly surprised over the complacency displayed by their juniors on the matter. Another question that is sitting heavy on the senior police officers is that why the gangster was taken to Baghpat for the hearing a day early.  Things warrant that he should be sent the same morning, a senior cop said while insisting on anonymity. However, State Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Ram Singh Meena said that police had followed the government norms and five armed policemen had been assigned with the task of producing Bhura in the court safely in Baghpat and of taking him back.
