Members of various organisations participated in a joint seminar against the privatisation of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).
The seminar held under the aegis of Aangabwadi Karyakatri Sevika Karmachari Union (AKSKU) was held at the District Panchayat hall in Dehradun on Sunday. Members from various organisations shared their views to draft an action plan against the privatisation of ICDS. Speakers said that according to the 2011 census there are more than 10 lakh children in Uttarakhand who constitute about 13 per cent of the State’s total population.
Majority of the children belong to such social and economical strata where poverty, disease, lack of sanitation, inadequate care and lack of proper access to primary facilities result in hampering the mental and physical growth of children. They said that Aanganwadi workers have to maintain various registers for the five allocated tasks related to children which prevents the workers from paying full attention to the children which is contrary to the fundamental aims of ICDS.
They emphasised their opposition to the privatisation of ICDS and called for unity among the workers concerned.
