The founder of Matri sadan, Swami Shivanand Saraswati has begun his hard core austerities on Sunday while his disciple ended his fast after 21 days. This comes in the wake of announcement by the Chief Minister of the State recently to resume mining in Ganga river bed from Raiwala to Bhogpur. In a letter addressed to the President of India, Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Prime Minister, Chief Justice of Uttarakhand Court and the Governor of Uttarakhand.

Demanding complete ban on mining in the ganga river bed, the seer of Matri Sadan Shivanand Saraswati has made a plea to the President of India in a letter to allow him to die at his own will  since the illegal mining has not been been checked in the last week when he had first sought his plea.

Swami Shivanand  Saraswati has written in the letter making five point questions to the President and other custodians of the Indian Constitution to either “reinstate the lost dignity of Constitution in the State”  or allow him to dissolve my body to enter into my soul by adopting high to higher stage Tapasya in pure Vedic tradition. He has also stated that if after receiving of the letter no response is made in a week’s time, “it will be construed as permission granted and I will start my high to higher stage tapasya believing you honourable have permitted for the same.”

Speaking to The Pioneer, Swami Shivanand Saraswati said, “Despite that all survey reports have revealed that mining in the ganga region would result in adverse impact on the environment, the mining mafia are active and illegal mining is rampant. The State Government is not taking any action against the mafia, but is supporting them.”

He further said that the head of the State, Harish Rawat was determined to destroy the city by patronising the mining mafia and had termed the National Green Tribunal as “khatarnak janwar” in a statement. He said that the State was being ruled by a person specific and not the constitution.
