A loan of Rs 2000 purportedly taken by Rann Singh in 1969 from a person then employed as an Ameen, has now ended up creating a major quandary for his son, 66-year old Mangal Singh who has petitioned the president of India seeking permission to commit euthanasia. Singh states that despite his father having fully repaid the loan, the 12 bigha land mortgaged for the loan was usurped by the land and builders’ nexus. Even though the court has ordered that status quo be maintained on the disputed land, number of bungalows have been constructed on this land in blatant violation of the court orders in addition to which Mangal Singh alleged that he had received death threats whenever he tried to visit his inherited land. While claiming to have legitimate ownership of the said land estimated to be valued at many crores of rupees, Singh-who is also a Dalit- lives with his wife in a shanty in Bapugram Hariyawala area.
Addressing the media under the banner of Gramin Vikas Samiti, Singh said, “My 12 bigha land is located along the Ajabpur-Mothrowala road and is presently known as Ganga enclave phase one, Doon University Road in Ajabpur Kalan. In 1969, to secure a loan of Rs 2,000 my father the late Rann Singh had mortgaged this land with a person named Jagdish Sharma who was occupying the position of an Ameen at that time. Exploiting his influence while occupying the post of Tehsildar before retirement, Sharma fabricated documents to claim that the said land was registered in the name of his wife. I approached the court of law wherein, taking cognisance of the situation, the court of the additional civil judge I (JD), Dehradun, had ordered a stay on construction activity and land dealing of the said land in 2015 directing that the status quo of the land be maintained. Despite this, Sharma’s son along with members of the land and builder nexus have blatantly violated court orders selling the land where buildings have been constructed. I submitted my complaint on this issue to the Dehradun district magistrate, senior superintendent of police, chief secretary and even the chief minister but no action was taken. I had also registered complaint with the police but the police officer in charge advised me to settle the case for Rs 1.5 lakh. I have received death threats from the mafia. Due to the disappointment and fear of conspiracies, I have requested the president seeking voluntary death,” said Mangal Singh.
