'Security measures in place at Welham Girls' School'

The Welham Girls' School has learnt a lesson on security after the threat letter it received on March 28 this year and the school has done everything on its part to ensure safety for its students, claimed the Principal of the school Jyotsna Brar on Tuesday.

The author of the letter claiming to be a member of dreaded terrorist organization Indian Mujahidin (IM) threatened to unleash unprecedented terror in the school campus in the first week of April. The letter however proved to be a hoax but it was enough to send shock waves in the security establishment of the state as Welham Girls' School is one of the most prestigious schools of the country. The Principal of the school said that management has deployed many close circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the school campus and all the activities are closely monitored. She said that all the entry and exit points in the school are monitored properly and all visitors are passed through the mandatory security check up.

Brar said that the school authorities have got tremendous support from the State security agencies and the school, too, fully cooperated with them. This correspondent himself witnessed the tight security measures the school has taken.

All the visitors were being frisked by the guards possessing metal detectors and every detail of the visitors was maintained in a register. It was also learnt that the school has doubled the security staff after it received the threat letter.
