Security beefed up along border with Nepal

Ahead of the general elections 2014, alleged clash between the SSB personnel and some Nepalese persons in Champawat’s Tanakpur region on late Monday night, has put the security personnel on their toes.

The security forces led by the Champawat district police and the SSB, have mounted vigil along the long and porous international border between India and Nepal in Tanakpur region following this incident.

However, the Champawat district police has now claimed to have brought the security situation along the said international border under control. The situation is under control after our meeting with the officials concerned of the Nepal Government, said K S Nagnyal, Superintendent of Police, Champawat, while talking to The Pioneer.

There is no any such worry. We have been regularly monitoring the border in coordination with the SSB putting in place necessary security steps, added Nagnyal. As it has been reported the security situation became tense on the said international border when some Nepalese forcefully took away a Nepali suspect from the SSB custody in Champawat's Tankpaur area on Monday night.

More so, the Nepali people allegedly clashed with the SSB personnel while they were taking away their Nepali fellow from the SSB custody.

In the meanwhile, the situation could be pacified only after intervention of the senior  officials concerned  of both countries and the officials then decided to meet again on Tuesday to solve the matter.

However, to maintain peace and tranquility on the international border and  more importantly, to avoid such skirmishes on the border in the future, the officials concerned also  decided to solve any such problem through dialogue, added the Champawat district police.

As it has been reported during the patrolling in Tanakpur area along the Shardaa river that forms international border between India and Nepal the SSB personnel suspected  movements of some Nepali people and arrested one of the suspects on  Monday night.

However, when the SSB refused to release the arrested suspect, the Nepalese came in large number and got the suspect released from the SSB custody resulting in tension on Monday night.
