In the run-up to the Independence Day celebration on Saturday, security agencies have been put on high alert across Kumaon division.
DIG Kumaon range, PS Sailal, has directed all the district police officials to make elaborate security arrangements in the region to ensure peaceful celebration of the day. At the same time, he
has asked the security agencies of all the districts of the Kumaon division to maintain high vigil in all the sensitive locations across their respective districts to deal with any eventuality.
They have been asked to conduct checking in different hotels and restaurants, bus stations, rest houses, railways stations, airports and other crowded public places and to keep eyes on the movements of the suspects. DIG Sailal has also asked the police officials of all the districts of the division to maintain vigil on all the venues, including schools, where programmes would be held to mark the day. He also alerted them about anti-social elements found trying to sneak into the districts.
Uttarakhand being a border state having boundaries with Nepal and China, security agencies remain on high alert, particularly along the long and porous border with Nepal. Special vigil is being maintained at entry points of the frontiers with Nepal like Banbasa, Tanakpur, Jhulaghat and Dharchula.
