Second day of Nagar Nigam staff strike: Work paralysed

Published on:

The strike by the Nagar Nigam employees entered its second day on Thursday, affecting the routine work. The Nagar Nigam officials were seen walking down to the office with the drivers being on strike. The agitating employees slammed MNA for sitting on their demands for long.

They said despite ultimatum being given, the demands of the Nagar Nigam employees have not been  addressed so far, compelling them thus  to intensify the stir on Thursday.

Under the banner of Nagar Nigam Sanyukt Morcha, the employees of the municipal corporation have  been on strike. They alleged that they were being forced to work in dilapidated buildings during  the monsoon with the ceiling dripping. However, the officials have refused to do anything to better things for them, they said. Justifying their  agitation, they said that the pension of the ex-employees had been withheld for nine months.

The president of Nagar Nigam Permanent Employees Mahasangh, Radhey Shyam  Chhachhar and vice-president Sudhakar Bhatt said that due to non-payment of pension and salary, the employees have been reeling under a grim financial crisis. The general secretary of the Mahasangh Indra Singh Rawat said that the officials were insensitive to the problems of the workers. Union leader Sunil Rathore said that the Nagar Nigam administration was not serious about the demands of its employees.

They also alleged that the contract workers have not received payment for the past nine months and the ex-servicemen have not received their pension for the past six months. “We served a memorandum of demands to the Mukhya Nagar Adhikari, Vipra Trivedi a week ago, but no action has been taken so far,” said a union leader, Surendra Teshwar.
