SDSU gets Rs25 cr for campus upgrade

New Year brought a positive development for Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University (SDSU), as it received Rs25 crore under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). This sum will be utilised for the expansion of university campus, library, examination hall, and appointment of staff, informed the officials.

According to sources, various works had been kept on the hold in the university due to shortage of funds. The Bhumi Pujan for the university campus at Selaqui in Dehradun was done in 2013 but the construction work has not been started yet. The university campus at Badshahithaul is also facing a shortage of rooms which is exacerbated during examinations. In the absence of an examination hall the university exams have to be conducted in the inter college building.

Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University had come into existence in 2012 and since then it has been functioning with 19 staff from the Uttarakhand Purv Sainik Kalyan Nigam limited (UPNl) even though the university’s work load has been increasing consistently. Till date more than 130 colleges have secured affiliation with the university. In the month of August last year the authorities had sent a proposal for various works including campus expansion, appointment of employees and library costing Rs40 crore under RUSA.

The university has received a letter regarding approval of Rs25 crore under RUSA. According to the university registrar Hansraj Bisht problems were being faced due to shortage of resources in the university. It is hoped that the Rs25 crore approved under RUSA will help resolve these problems, he added.
