SDRF forms 30-member flood rescue team

In order to expand its work-capacity on rescue and relief operations in case of flood, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has formed a flood rescue team comprising 30 personnel. The members are trained in rafting and deep diving, said IG (SDRF) Sanjay Kumar Gunjyal on Tuesday.Gunjyal said that the members of flood rescue teams have been given advanced training on rafting and flood rescue operation in various rivers of the state like Ganga, Pindar, Alaknanda, Bhagirathi and Tehri lake.

SDRF Commandant P Renuka Devi said that the flood rescue team members had recently undergone 40 days’ training at Sea Explore Institute, Calcutta on under- water diving course on life- saving and salvage (deep diving course). The team members are capable of conducting search and rescue operations to evacuate the persons in case they are found drowning in the river. Currently, the flood rescue team members have been deployed at Rishikesh, Dehradun to conduct rescue and relief operations in case of emergency, she added.
