The SDM, police and officials of the National Highway Authority of India have sounded unhappy over the vehicles being parked hither and thither on the roadsides and rampant encroachment of the corner of the roads at Transport Nagar area in lalkuan. They asked the officers concerned to ensure that no such parking and encroachment happens in the area. They said fines of `5000 would be levied on those found flouting the norms.
led by the SDM Pankaj Upadhyay team comprising senior police, Tehsil department and NHAI officers aside from the members of the Nagar Panchayat visited Transport Nagar on Tuesday morning. They were visibly shocked with vehicles being parked in flagrant defiance of the parking norms. They warned the transporters of facing penalty in the form of fine of `5000 or more and of legal action being taken against them if they are found encroaching the roads in the area.
SDM said that the administration will take stringent actions to stop them from doing the same in future. He said he was shocked seeing shopkeepers , transporters and motor mechanics encroaching vast stretches of the roads. “We would not brook such nonsense in the coming days and would do everything to stop them from flouting the rules with such impunity,” he said.
Observers say the administration rising up to the occasion is a welcome development. “We hope things would better now. But we doubt whether the spirit would continue or flag. Our past experiences are not good,” said one of them.
