The people of the Chaubatakhal tehsil has been facing problems to have their works done in the tehsil as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate has been functioning from the district headquarters in Pauri.
For a simple work requiring the signature of the SDM, they have to trudge to Pauri bearing a burden of Rs 500 and more. In case they have to stay for the night the expenditure goes up to Rs 1,000 or more.
Venting their grievances, they say that for a signature in an affidavit or other works, the SDM often raises
objection as a result of which they return to their native places to come back again to have things completed in a few days.
Mahendra Singh, resident of Chaubatakhal, alleged that since Kamlesh Mehta was appointed SDM, he rarely worked from his office in Chaubatakhal.
The aggrieved people threaten sit-in at Pauri to change things for the better.
Asked about the matter, district magistrate Chandra Sekhar Bhatt said that SDM will work from the Tehsil office at Chaubatakhal from March 15 onwards. He said that Kamlesh Mehta being a trainee SDM was out of the tehsil due to the Patwari Bharti. Instruction would be given to him to work from the tehsil office from Tuesday, DM said.
