Taking a serious note of the alleged gang rape of an eight-year-old girl by five minor boys at a Sahaspur-based village, the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has asked for a detailed report of the case from the department concerned in two days.
Talking to The Pioneer on Tuesday, Usha Negi, chairperson SCPCR, said, “The commission has asked for a detailed report about the case which is to be submitted within two days. We would also make enquiries about all the factors and reasons which delayed the case from getting reported in the police by two days. The commission would also see that the five accused aged between 9 and 14 are counselled properly in the correctional centre where they are presently lodged.”
Dwelling on the children using smartphones, Negi said, “Parents should not give such phones to the kids as they are not of the age to sift the good from the bad. Besides, the parents should give them more time to understand them, to drag them away from things which are not good for them.”
Taking cognisance of the allegation made by a family against a private nursing home regarding the death of their premature baby girl, the commission is all set to write a letter to the private nursing home, seeking an inquiry into the incident.
Talking about it, Negi said, “Members of the commission have visited the nursing home after the case came to the fore. Furthermore, a letter would be sent by the commission to the private nursing home, asking it to go for a thorough inquiry into the allegation.”
