SCPCR chief seeks probe into girl’s death during lockdown

Published on:

The chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Usha Negi recently received a complaint from a man regarding the death of his six year old daughter who died during the lockdown in April.

The case is from Bhagat Singh Colony here which was sealed in April after several Covid-19 positive patients were found there.

According to the complaint, the girl got injured at night while playing with her siblings but due to lockdown and barricading in the containment zone, the father could not take her to the hospital.

The next day, the father informed the police and asked for permission to get his daughter treated in a hospital. The complainant further alleged that the police refused permission and advised him to get her examined by the doctor provided by the administration.

The complainant has accused in the letter that the doctor did not check the girl physically and prescribed medicine just by looking at her.

The complainant said that the next day her condition got worse and after the girl was denied treatment in Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital stating only Covid-19 patients get treated there, she was referred to Coronation hospital where the doctors declared her dead.

The complainant alleged that due to the negligence of police and doctor, the girl could not receive proper treatment on time and died.

Negi has asked the Director General (Law and Order) for an investigation into the matter and submit the investigation report to the commission within one month.
