The chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Usha Negi visited the shelter home of the children and the girls (Sishu Niketan/ Balika Niketan) on Wednesday. She instructed the supervisor of the home to take proper care of all the inmates. During the visit, she found that a girl aged seven has been admitted to the Coronation Hospital due to some allergic infection she had. She enquired into the girl’s health and asked the officers concerned to ensure her proper treatment.
While stressing on the maintenance of right environment in the home, Negi asked the supervisor to take back four girls in Balika Niketan, as Nari Niketan is already cramped with inmates. “Balika Niketan has presently just 14 girls,” she said.
She also asked the supervisor to ensure proper sanitation facilities in the home. As she found two children down with polio she said that free health checkups must be conducted for them. She was shocked to find that 15 children living there had no idea about the places they are from. She asked the officers concerned to collect detailed information about the location of their houses so that they can be reunited with their families in future. The district probation officer (DPO) Meena Bisht was present during SCPCR chairperson’s visit.
