SCPCR chairperson visits Coronation Hospital, stresses sanitation

Published on:

The chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Usha Negi visited Coronation Hospital on Thursday to enquire into health of the girl inmate of Sishu Niketan (shelter home for the children) who had been admitted following infection. She, further, gave strict instruction to hospital staffers to ensure proper sanitation at the facility.

During the inspection, the patients admitted in the hospital complained about the improper care being taken by the ward in–charge. They alleged that sanitation of the wards was not being taken care of and even the blankets were not being changed. They said that the apathy of the authority could easily lead to their affliction with communicable diseases.

Taking a serious note of the complaints related to sanitation facilities provided in the wards, Negi gave strict directions to the ward in-charge for ensuring proper sanitation. She also asked the chief medical supervisor (CMS) of the hospital Dr Punetha to check whether sanitation facilities there are satisfactory or not.

She, further, told Dr Punetha that they must arrange proper treatment for the two children suffering from Polio in Sishu Niketan. She suggested that free treatment should be provided to them.

Dr Punetha said that they are ready to conduct free health checkups of the children living in the homes. But he cited the fund crunch plaguing the hospital and said they could not do much because of that. He assured that if the Government provides the required funds they would treat the inmates of the children homes free.

Negi asked the CMS to write to the commission giving full details of the problems they are facing and then the commission would take the required initiatives to help the hospital tide over the problems.
