The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has sent a letter to the director general of police law and order Ashok Kumar asking for a magisterial inquiry in the death of a minor in a fire which had engulfed a mattress warehouse in Dehradun on May 27.

A letter submitted by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to the SCPCR stated that the case of minor who died in the warehouse has not been probed properly.

The case was related to the death of a minor but the police did not inform the CWC about any inquiry. The father of the minor also accused the mattress warehouse owner of using the residential building as factory again after the incident on being released from police custody. The father of the minor also informed CWC that on the day of the accident six people were working in the factory including his son.

After the fire broke out in the factory five workers saved themselves but his son died in the accident.

The father also accused the police inspector in charge of the case of not behaving properly with the parents.  CWC also alleged that when a representative from the commission reached the police station no such information was provided to her. SCPCR chairperson Usha Negi said, “We have sent a letter to the director general, law and order, Ashok Kumar asking for a magisterial inquiry in the case and its report in the commission in one month.”
